The briefing sets out the theoretical and practical components of today's global monetocracy and compares them with those through which Gaian democracies could acheive their very different aims. Throughout the text, the authors stress the systems framework on which they have based their proposals. They draw on examples such as the Mondragon co-operatives of Basque Spain, Via Internatinal, the Semco Corporation, the Athenian city state and the hundreds of participative budgets initiated by the Brazilian Workers' Party, to show how many principles of Gaian democracies have been successfully applied in the real world. The whole aim of this book is to set out a new theory of democracy through which we can tackle the tremendous political task of co-creating a just and sustainable future for the human family.
