The second season of Gilmore Girls is incredible to watch as the characters struggle to find themselves and their place in the relationships they share with others. What makes Gilmore Girls great is that you care about all the characters, which leads to conflicting emotions when they (and they all eventually do) let you down. For example, while Rory is often a very easygoing, likeable character, you can't help but loathe her treatment of Dean as she begins to fall (perhaps, unknowingly or moreover, unadmittedly) for Jess. Additionally, no relationship is simple as Lorelai wavers between the roles of friend and mother, which often prove to be polar opposites, to Rory. No other show so accurately and realistically captures the complexity of human beings and their relationships in such a heartfelt and entertaining way.Read full review
How this series became a hit is a mystery. The 2 leads, mother and daughter, have mythic lives. The mother is, apparently, everyone's darling despite eating little more than junk food but staying rail thin, seemingly hardly working but being some super manager, practicing no commitment in her relationships but, apparently, all the men desire her. Her demeanor of a constant "smart alec" is repulsive and her notions of independence are false given her constant dependence on her parents for money. The male characters surrounding her are portrayed as incompetents (her father is unable to change the thermostat setting and the answering machine without her). The show is unhealthy as it practices binge eating during times of emotional stress and lack of commitment in relationships. I purchased the series for my daughter because she likes it but the show is disgraceful. The father and the diner owner are portrayed as working lots of hours to manage their businesses, as any owner/manager will attest to is required, but are portrayed as losers for such commitment.Read full review
