This book is dedicated to Metal, a genre of rock music with aggressive rhythms, powerful sounds and, at times, disturbing themes. It features an in-depth reconstruction of the genre's origins and development, including all the major contributing genres and sub-genres. An important part of the book is dedicated to Hard Rock, from which Metal derives. AUTHORS: Guitarist Kerry King is a founding member of the Grammy Award winning thrash-metal group Slayer. Since its 1983 debut, Show No Mercy, the band has put out one masterpiece after another, including its controversial and celebrated 1986 album, Reign in Blood. Outside of Slayer, King played guitar with Megadeth at their early shows and has performed guest guitar on songs by artists ranging from the Beastie Boys to Pantera to Rob Zombie. In his off time, he breeds snakes and works on his clothing line, KFK Ministries. Kory Grow is the senior editor of Revolver magazine, the United States' largest magazine covering hard rock and heavy metal. In his career, he's interviewed artists ranging from Metallica to Ozzy Osbourne to Avenged Sevenfold to Darkthrone. He's traveled to Norway to drink with black-metal bands and to Florida to listen to rough mixes of death-metal albums before they were released. He has also written about heavy metal for Guitar World, Metal Hammer, Decibel, Alternative Press, The Village Voice, and more. He lives in Astoria, New York, with his wife and cat.
