Too many mics have a sort of boxed sound, not enough airy in the upper region and too much mellow and closed in the middle low region. this mic is just the opposite. I hear fresh open air in the upper region, the only complaint is about a rather empty sound in the middle low area, this is probably due to the fact that handing noise has been reduced if compared to the pr20 and I'm afraid this was a compromise. I'm curious to try a pr20 in this sense. In any case I'd never go back to a 58 (both beta or not beta). For some reasons I even prefer this mic over my blasoned Ksm9, Yes, no kidding, Enrico (Italy)

As of this last year, I exclusively use Heil PR-35 for my vocals, and the PR-22 for instrument and back-up vocals. I have been a professional performing musician and recording artist over the last 40 years, and have not found a better microphone that gets the job done with super reliability. The sound quality can not be beat. As with any microphone (due to their design) there is a technique you need to develop to get the best sound results. These are very clean and sensitive microphones, and they pick up your every nuaunce. No need to over power these vocally, you will find your technique and vocal approach will become more like the studio in your live performances. Really saves the old vocal cords from strain, especially if you happen to be on tour, or have back-to-back gigs. All I can say is... if you don't own and use one, buy one, and start enjoying the benefits of owning the best for the dollar. Hey don't take my word, try it for yourself.... you will be really surprised... I know I was! JCRead full review
I have bought many Heil mics, because they sound "different". while the Heil PR35 is my all-time, the PR22 is perhaps the most unknown mic around. It is amazingly clear mic, little proximity effet and even takes down the Shure Beta58, it's that good. Designed and sold by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Bob Heil, once you try Heil mics, you will go to them everytime.

I'm using this mic with a Behringer 802 mixer on an iCom IC718 transceiver. The mic has a dynamic element, connects to the mixer via XLR cable, and is a stripped down version of Heil's PR22, without the different colored screens. Sound quality and sensitivity are outstanding and the mixer tunes and amplifies my voice well for either video or radio transmission with great results.

I love the Heil PR-22 vocal mic for live vocals, both male & female. The gain before feedback is superior to the Shure SM-58, and we get lots of compliments on the vocal tone quality.
