I bought this item in oreder to track my flights on google. Being an airline Captain I use a couple of trackers to see my tracks and calculate savings on fuel when we get direct routings. They are very precise and very accurate. Good Points: 1. Precise and very fast update. 2. LCD backlight (even if very dim and small font) display. 3. Uses normal batteries, so no need to charge a bateery if you carry a spare AA battery. 4. This lies in the eye of the beholder, yet the design is very "cool" 5. Very good build quality. 6. Has an LCD disply, so one can see realtime data. 7. Bluetooth (as with most similar and cheaper devices) Bad Points 1 Power hungry 2 Small display 3 Does not receive signal as fast as much cheaper devices 4 Does not have a flashing Led (as much cheaper devices) which can lead to leaving behind after a flight... happened to me a couple of times when I was only using this device. 5 As with all devices in this category, playback (even at lowest speed) of the track on google is too fast. This is because instead of continuos logging, it logs the point every 5 secs. If it had the possiblity of accepting a micro sd card, than continuos logging would be possible. 6 As with similar device height is totally unreliable, as it does not depend on the receiver. (Probably this is a security measure taken by satellite transmiters) 7. Design makes it very prone to move about. Other similar devices are flat and rubbery so they have a low center of gravity and better surface grip. 8. There is no flashing LED which indicates signal reception. Conclusion. There are many cheaper devices out there which do not look so nice, yet function better in terms of signal aquisition. They are also better at keeping the signal. This item looks great, yet I give it average points due to the fact that it beats other cheaper devices only in this area. This is only my opinion, yet owning another very cheap (pricewise) I can compare them side by side, and the cheaper one outperforms the Holux in all respects except looks, and onboard display.Read full review
We purchased several of these as GPS data loggers for our Search and Rescue team. They are sensitive and hold an ample amount of data. The setup is not real intuitive (you need the cheat sheet in hand), but after that, it's switch it on and press start. It's great that it operates for a couple of days on a single AA battery! The software allows the download of the data and conversion into one of three file types, including files that will overlay with most mapping and topo programs. As a data logger, they seem to work great. Don't rely upon it as your primary GPS unless all you need is your current location. Nice that it comes with a neck lanyard and a USB cable.
If you intend to use this with your Android devices as external gps receiver, don't buy this unit. Instead, buy the old model which is M-241. I have tried this on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro that support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), although it can be paired with the phones, it simply could not connect. I have tried various settings with Bluetooth GPS app to no avail.
