The Gospel According to Ike and Tina, recorded at Bolic Sound Studios in Inglewood, California in 1973, and released as an LP a year later by United Artists Records, was one of the last projects Ike & Tina Turner worked on together before their divorce. The duo's performances had always been a kind of lusty, amped-up version of secular gospel in the first place, so this set just moved things to the other side of the dancefloor where they were a bit more sanctified. It didn't change the show, though, and the move to holier ground for this LP still found Tina Turner singing frenzied, passionately, and at full-tilt -- which was always the heart of the matter anyway. ~ Steve Leggett
