was looking for info on the monkees and found this book. It was written by Mickey Dolenz and was a book I couldn't put down. The book was written some time ago and was from mickey's perspective and was about his life before the Monkees as well. Being a huge fan of the Monkees most of my life and having met the remaining three over the last 5 years at comicons locally, I was very interested in this book. Many people dismiss the monkees as a boy group from the sixties but out selling the Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined in their heyday is no small feat. I was shocked how well conected in the music scene these guys were. From being the first band to take Jimi Hendrics on the road with them to having the Beatles throw them a party when touring England, these guys had met everyone who was anyone back then. I recommend this book to anyone Read full review

The first thing that struck me is how Dolenz matured over the years. There's a distinct "don't do what I did kids" atmosphere regarding drug use. He's a very dedicated father and still funny as hell. The book reads like a stand-up routine refering back to jokes mentioned in earlier chapters. Nez was the best musician / song writer....Mickey the best "Monkee" FYI...I "discovered" the Monkees 25 years after they went off the air so I'm not some die-hard Monkee fan. I caught Nesmith's "Elephant Parts" in a gag-reel at ABC-TV... bought the Laser Disc and then started buying Nez music ending up with all of the Rhino re-releases. These guys did some great stuff. Headquarters Sessions is now one of the top entries on my desert island discs list.Read full review

Entertaining, funny, and thoughtful. What a life Mickey Dolenz has had! Talented guy.

It wasn't "great literature," in the sense that it would have won literary awards, but I found it light and entertaining. I think, so long as you are a fan of Mr Dolenz, you would appreciate the book. :) Some parts were a bit skeletal, but, according to Mr Dolenz, his memories are similarly skeletal, as it was, well, the late '60's. ;) I enjoyed this book, and was satisfied with the purchase.
