This was/is a fast chip, (socket T 775). In 2008/9 it cost $500US, later, $300. Made a good setup better. Nothing like an i7 of course, but as a daily drive it's as good as I need in a retro sense. I do audio work, not into gaming, (GO IN HARD, BOOMER!!!!) ha ha. It has cut ripping and conversion times in half. At my age, running out of life time, thats important. This machine runs GNU/Linux LMDE 4. It is well good. Chip runs well and at 45 deg C wirh Arctic Air Cooling aboard a Gigabyte MOBO.

Very expensive for performance, can be outperformed by many modern, (budget), dual and quad core cpu's. Only purchased because it only just manages 1080 60 fps videos on Youtube, the dual core's ability is redundant for this. It's alot better to upgrade to more modern, budget Pentium, I3 systems.

Ok!, so it may not have all the modern extras built into it like the latest i7, but it can give you the raw speed "feeling" of the i7 at a beggars price. At "4 Cores x 3.00GHz 64-bit" makes this ideal for a "Office PC" or "Occasional Gamer" PS: "UNLIKE" the very Latest CPU's from Intel, you "can" install older operating systems like Windows 7 with CPU.

Even though it's an older CPU, there is a noticeable improvement in the computers performance owing to the quad core's speed @ 3Ghz. It is great at general computer usage like web browsing and document editing. Even handles most games. Don't expect it to deal too well with the latest high end games, as it is an older CPU. But if you're looking to breathe some life into your older Core 2 Duo computer, this CPU will definitely do that. Just check with the manufacturer first to make sure your computer supports Core 2 Quads first.

If you have an older PC that is a little sluggish but still reliable this may well be what you're looking for. It's still reasonably fast even by todays standards but the other bottlenecks inherent in 8-10 year old computers hold the quad core CPU back a little. Windows still loads slowly amd apps are a little slow to open but once running it feels much snappier and tasks like video encoding are much quicker.
