I bought it because I needed a cheap, compact and light tripod for use on day trips. It did prove to be compact and light and can easily fit into a backpack. I got good results from it on night time photography and family photos. It's not as useful as a regular tripod as you need to either set it low on the ground or on an object, and it's difficult to look through the viewfinder when the camera is close to the ground (I'd recommend using live-view if your camera has the feature). I would recommend this product for anyone who needs a really compact and lightweight tripod at the expense of the usability of a full sized tripod, or anyone who is on a budget and needs a quality product.
Overall, I think this is a GREAT product. The only drawback I see is the price!! There's not a heck of a lot to it... not a very complicated piece of equipment, so I really don't see why they charge so much for it!! On a positive note... I was happy to see that it came w/an adapter type screw so that the 'ball head' from my full size tripod can be attached to the 'Gorillapod'
After taking the Gorillapod on a backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail through Tennessee, I am in LOVE with it. It came in handy in more ways than I ever would have imagined. It is a sturdy product and holds up my DSLR very well. I had no fears about my camera's safety on unique terrain with this tripod. I use it with the Joby Ballhead and would highly recommend purchasing that accessory for the best pictures and ease of use.
Great tripod for a medium weight DSLR camera. It works better with the Joby swivel ball head adapter. This auction did not come with one, I had to purchase one afterwards. If you don't want to get the swivel head, you will have to manually adjusst all three legs of the tripod and that could take some time if you have limited time to get your shot. All in all, great little tripod, can be set up almost anywhere and in any position as long as you position the legs around a sturdy object. Really do consider getting the Joby swivel ball head as well. It will make life so much easier if you do.
I bought this as a light and easy to carry tripod. My tripod cane equiped with a small ballhead also by Joby. My main reason for bying it is its versetality, i dont have to carry a big tripod around when im traveling. The Joby is perfect for my video camera both as a tripod and also as a kind of handle. You mount the camera as ushual and bend up the legs to form a handle of sorts. That makes it mouch more easy to hold my small Panasonic HDC -SD 700 still when filming. I realy would liked to have the Joby last year when i whent to London and took some eavning/night picktures of the Tower Bridge. I gad to prop up the camera Nikon D200 with anything i had in my pockets, coins and so on to get a steady platforn for exposes down to 2-5 secs. Get one, its cheap and easy to carry with you. Eric
