Policing in the 1970's as compared to the more enlightened and technologically advanced methods of 2006, is shown in all its politically incorrect glory. The characters are at once repulsive, sometimes ultimately endearing, as they race thought the streets of Manchester in a souped up Ford, screeching around corners, thumping suspects into confession, and denigrating the female police and women generally. The dialogue is raw, and graphic. Horrifying stuff, but gosh, haven't we , hopefully, come a long way. We empathise with the transplanted detective, and support his quest for a more advanced method of policing. We laugh, guiltily, and enjoy the show on a variety of levels, not the least being relief that times have changed, .Perfect casting, wonderful script, absolutely addictive viewing.Read full review
