Coming in between 1968's WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE and 1969's PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART, 1968's LAUREL CANYON did not contain any hits on the order of those albums' title tracks. However, many fans now consider this country-rock-influenced set one of DeShannon's best. Highlights include the wistful title track, "She's My Best Friend," and a playful DUSTY IN MEMPHIS-style take on the Band's "The Weight." The 2005 reissue on RPM Records doubles the album's length with rarities and previously unreleased bonus tracks.
