I wish I would have purchased this book first, before struggling thru third party CSS editors / Dreamweaver extensions and basic web building books. I needed basic info; this book could have saved me days of frustration and trying to blindly figure out what is going on. The title of the book suggests (to me) that this is for those who already have a very good understanding of CSS. Fact is this book is one of the best for plainly describing CSS, and has a very gradual, understandable technique of how CSS works, what it does, and how to use it. It is very easy to read and follow. Of particular note is the tips and tricks, as well as the light humor, peppered throughout the book. I delayed purchasing this book because the other review made this sound like a bad book. Take my advice and do yourself a favor: Buy this book is GREAT!!! It will always be at my side when building CSS and reminding me of the some of the gotchas with CSS and Dreamweaver. Furthermore, by discussing CSS, there is good information about web pages, in general. There is no CD, as most authors do these days, but there is a link to download all the files that would otherwise be on a CD. The reference web site has lots of useful info. This is definitely the first or one of the first books any CSS user should have at their immediate disposal, both as a teaching tool and as a reference.Read full review
Don't be confused by my rating. This Book DOES have a lot of good information. Both writers are no doubt experts in their field. If you already understand CSS this will probably take you to the next level. If you have already worked with Dreamweaver this will greatly improve your skills. All that having been said . . . . . this book is NOT for the beginner. After the first two hours of reading, I had not retained anything that I could apply to building my website. It was WAY above my head, and I've been building sites for over 10 years. At the same time I purchased "Master Visually Dreamweaver CS3" and within 15 minutes, I was working on my site. It was twice the size of the other and cost less, but more importantly . . . it was written and illustrated in such a way that I could actually understand what was being said. To sum it up, if you are a computer programmer or a computer science Major in college, it would probably be good for reference material. BUT . . . if you are the average person just trying to learn a new web page software . . . this is NOT the book to start with.Read full review
This author does something few others do: hold your hand and walk you through the steps, then explain what you just did and why you did it. Just about every other instructor explains theory before you actually learn the practical application of the software application. It's like learning to drive a car by first doing an engine rebuild. Yuck! CSS and Dreamweaver can be a difficult to get your mind around. This book does an excellent job of laying it all out for you.
