Additional information
The Bevis Frond: Nick Saloman (various instruments). Includes liner notes by Nick Saloman. Nick Saloman's one-man band, the Bevis Frond, debuted in 1987 with the extremely limited edition pressing of its first LP, MIASMA. Containing 11 tracks (the 2001 re-issue of the record adds 7 illuminating bonus tracks recorded at the same period), the work remains a stunning debut. Saloman has said that he wanted to create music that he would enjoy, a combo of Hendrix, the Wipers, and the Byrds. But what is on MIASMA is so much more than the sum of those parts: Saloman proves equally adept at banging out a scorching guitar solo piece ("Wild Afternoon") and crafting pure psychedelic pop ("Splendid Isolation"). Recorded at home, the album holds a roughhewn charm without sounding compromised or weak. While it's a remarkable starting point, MIASMA offers a mere hint of the many excellent Bevis Frond records that Saloman would later issue.
