This little thing is awesome! I get HD radio with station info (last version did it too, I know, but this is more detailed), the touch interface is more intuitive than the touchpad on previous version, the display is faster and more vibrant, it is extremely lightweight and super thin too! Video playback is stunning and the oled response is impressive. Did I mention the amazing sound quality from the standard included earbuds?!? I can't wait to check out what this thing is gonna sound like through my sennheiser studio monitors! Oh yeah and the available games and apps are pretty cool too. The ZuneHD OS runs extremely smooth - an improvement but that's not a huge improvement from the last version as my 80Gb Zune 2nd gen ran pretty smooth too even with games installed. So far the battery life is pretty close to rated values. I'll go with 85% of what MSQL values are. I used the music player functionality three days in a row for 9 hour shifts at my job before it needed to be recharged, but it wasn't totally dead either... The video player allowed me to play the first five Saw movies at a marathon me and my girlfriend hosted with a little less than half a battery left. There are two cons but they're minor in my book. 1) Still no internal bluetooth to complement the WiFi or external dataport add-ons for bluetooth. 2) Still no support for creating custom playlists from the player except the now playing list. Neutral points (for me): Does not have an internal speaker, does not have an internal camera, comes with above average entry level earbuds/headphones (the zune premium v1's I got with my 2nd gen Zune are better). Overall I'm gonna give this gadget a 4.75 out of 5. Radio reception is killer, operation is not only easy but fun, music playback is well beyond my expectations and video is exceptional for a portable device. Expandability options are more available for ZuneHD now too as far as a/v out, remote control and alarm clock/speaker functionality. While not a true HD screen it sure does mimic the ratio close enough for me. I'd buy it again!Read full review
I have used Apple's I-pods, Sans players, etc., so I decided to take a big chance with the Zune - I love it! If your top features for a media player are apps and web browsing, then, go with a newer I-pod. Otherwise, once you start to use the Zune, you'll forget about the rest. The device was made to: play music, run videos/movies, use paylists and blogs, listen to the radio, and, download or transfer them. The design is very simple, the construction tight and lightweight. Unlike some competitors, once you buy music from Zune, it's yours forever, to copy and to transfer; but, you don't have to - it plays most of the major formats out there (I copied I-tunes files to it). The controls are EXTREMELY intuitive - touchscreen, point to what you want, burrow into settings. Lots (64 gigabits) of space in a system that, I haven't encountered any lag time with (it'll boot-up while you blink). It comes with a music/device/website management software program that lets you organize (add, delete, rename, categorize, make playlists, etc.) your media. Very portable; Windows compatible; low maintenance; no binding service or music plans. The Zune media service is Microsoft's service - a huge library, unlimited access for a fixed fee with bonus free tracks...but, you don't need it, since just about wherever you get your songs and movies from can be copied over (the Zune doesn't "care"). Has one of the fastest, finest, CD rippers I've ever come across! You can put your CDs into your collection faster than you'd think. On a personal note, I set the CD copy setting to maximum quality (i.e., file size; usually 144 mb, rather than, say 40), and, the music songs a lot cleaner than when I had used the CDs (I can actually hear the words better, it seems that I had been off on some of the lyrics!). WEAKNESSES: very few apps available (but, I have a cellphone for that) and a high price (but, seriously, expect to get what you pay for). BOTTOM LINE: if you love music, videos, streaming, movies...then, this is what you want...buy it and be happy.Read full review
My Zune 80G was turning 5 or 6 years old so decided to upgrade to the 64 HD while I could. I am extremely pleased with the touch screen features; the sound is excellent; my friends who have iPods are surprised at the music quality output, and it is more user friendly and easy to load new music to. No real problems at all with it and find it more my style as I don't have to download thru iTunes like I have to with my iPad. It has more capability than I need but that is ok. Love that it hooks right into my car system for long trips. Also, the size of this unit is much more conducive to travel with in the car or my person. love it!!!!
For those of us who just want music on the go. I think you can't go wrong with this unit. There is enough with 64gb of storage. for all the music I want to take along with me.I like the size of this mp3 player. If you want to watch video you can, too. But for me the small 3" screen size. I would only watch something like music videos. It's too small for movies. Now if you have the home docking unit, then you could watch a movie on your TV. It plays my mp3's great @ 256gbs.At 64gb this more than I need, but I always wanted the 64gb.Now I have one. Too bad microsoft stopped making these. There are people that still like a good mp3 unit that's not apple product.[I know it doesn't have a camera,or take movies].It also has internet, not much on apps. One improvement would be to have a volume control on the side of the unit,so you don't to use the screen for this plus keep all the touch controls. I don't know if any mp3 player has a volume adjusting software built in ,so all your mp3's would download at the same sound level. That would be nice. Because the sound level from mp3 downloads and CD's is very different.Anyway I still give it 2 thumbs up.Read full review
Over 3400 songs on this thing and it plays like a dream. Its too bad they are not making these anymore. Microsoft was heading in the right direction with this one. So thin, so small, and yet so powerful. Wifi, Internet, Slide shows, Movies, Apps, Games, Amazing sound quality, Beautiful graphical interface, I slip it into a sleek leather case and it fits easily into my pocket. I use the AV docking station for connecting to my HD TV via HDMI and it even comes with a remote so I can sit in my chair and control it from across the room. I use the Car Kit to play thru my vehicle speakers and charging it at the same time making this an amazing piece of entertainment. I also love how I can now take the movie collection that I accumulated using Zune on my XBOX 360 with me on this player everywhere I go! And the picture quality is crisp, bright and clear! Only one flaw .... No Bluetooth. Other than that, this is one outstanding piece of technology.Read full review
