In this urban Romeo and Juliet screenplay, Ana & Tony we see the world through the eyes of main character, sixteen year old Ana Rodriguez. Ana is a brown-skinned Cuban American girl living in Brooklyn, New York with her single father, Miguelito Rodriguez-a man in his 60's with very old-fashioned beliefs and extremely overprotective of his only daughter. In 1980 after just arriving from Cuba to settle down in America, Ana's father suffers a brutal attack at the hands of three black ghetto youths outside a bar in Brooklyn and is the reason for his anger and devastation when his daughter falls in love with Tony Timmons, an African American. Tony is seventeen years old and as an aspiring rapper goes by the nickname, Tiny Tim. But Tony's mother, Katie Timmons who was raped by a Cuban drug dealer as a teen is also against her son's romance w ith a Cuban girl. A riveting love story that takes a cold, hard, real-life look at the racial tensions between Hispanics and African Americans and what can happen when your own children fall in love with the very race you despise.
