The primary problem with this album is it indiates the generation and dire musical tastes of Phil Redmond and his middle aged session musicians rather than the teenage vocal performers and their target audience. In 1986, when we were teenagers, we did not listen to Status Quo, Fleetwood Mac or any of those other dinosaur bands. The secondary problem is the sound quality - it's like listening to a Japanese transistor radio. You have to put the tracks through a music editing system like soundforge or adobe audition to add bass and expansion before the tracks even begin to sound decent. In its favour, it does feature some fine performances from many of the original Grange Hill cast and, as a bonus, the original theme music. The sleeve notes are taken from the 1986 vinyl release - some new notes and data would be welcome. In all - a shoddy product which does justice neither to the Grange Hill cast nor the magnificent programme itself.Read full review
