I have a number of Apple devices and had previously used Blackberry for six years. The windows solution looked interesting and so it is, it does everything I want I to incl music streaming via blue tooth, a good camera, a large screen, 4G, able to act as a hotspot and upgradable memory.
This Model come without wireless charger this was reason why I bought so extra $100.00 on top it's not good value & on top no call recording so another $80.00 for voice recorder. But it's good phone after all
I upgrade phones once every five years or so and I choose a phone based on the following things: 1. Must be able to call and have good clarity on both ends 2. Must sms, mms 3. Must have glonass and offline mapping software with downloadable maps. I travel a reasonable amount and if Im stuck in a place with no network coverage, I can rely on it picking up my location via satellite (a little longer than with assited network gps but acceptable) Nokia maps gives me free maps and updates for life and several countries too. Other platforms require a license per country and dont to TTS as well as nokia maps. I even have transit maps for public transport in any country all in the one app. 4. Removable battery that lasts at least a week on a single charge. I dont want apple care charging me a fortune to replace a battery that costs $20. 5. Internet connectivity i.e wifi, 3g, 4g 6. External memory card. It still amazes me how people will pay a fortune for $64 of memory on an iphone, when a sandisk or samsung class 10 microsd card costs $32 ish. 7. Not cost a fortune. This phone ticks all the boxes for me, has an excellent screen with Gorilla glass and the best navigation software by far. I would definitely buy this again if I had to pick. The UI is clean and smooth and not laggy. Handles Office docs natively, app store has a rapidly growing number of apps, which are sandboxed so no concern about virii or malware. After a disappointing experience with the weighty Lumia 920, I saw the 820 as a serious replacement. I have to say that if you aren't fussed about numbers, or night pictures, the Lumia 820 is a better phone than the 920. It has a flat screen making normal, inexpensive screen protectors fit well (the only ones that work on the 920 are the Skinomi ones), it has a removable battery and micro SD card, replaceable rear cover and a screen that is almost as big. Unless you have very good, young eyes, or good glasses, you won't pick the extra pixels of the 920 either. It also has the same reception in regional areas as the 920 (meaning very good). Windows Phone 8 (with Portico update) is very good. There are some iPhone Apps that i's like, but apart from that all the apps I wanted are there. Nokia Drive (now "Here Drive") is a very good turn by turn sat nav system, the integration of facebook into the contacts area is first class, and I find OneNote a very useful method of making lists and on the go notes.Two Apps I recommend are Sky Wallet, and excellent password/wallet with robust synchronisation with the desktop app through Skydrive, and Nokia's Photobeamer which will show a photo from your phone on any internet connected TV or PC. The battery life is only average, although I always manage at least a full day without a problem and Windows Phone does annoy with its lack of distinction between ringer, phone call and music volumes. Set it loud enough for the ringer to be heard and the thing blasts your ears out when you use the phone. The 4G speeds are impressive, but unless you live close to a tower 4G is pretty irrelevant.Read full review
If you are in the market for a Windows phone I can recommend the Nokia Lumia 820. The Windows 8 system is great to use & for my purposes I have found all the apps that I require. Unlike Apple phones, I can access the Windows App store from any PC be it at work,or friends house by logging into my account & download the app directly to my phone without the need for an "itunes like" software. Being a Windows operating system when you connect to your PC the phone appears more or less like a USB drive and items you wish to add to your phone may be dragged & dropped into the appropriate folder within the phone. Although the Lumia 820 is larger and marginally heavier than it's iphone competitor,the advantage is a larger screen to view media, video & photos. The camera seems to take good photos but the lack of an option to vary the resolution of the photo you wish to take is disappointing. I have read that the Lumia 920 has a superior camera so if photos are your thing then maybe you should look elsewhere.Read full review
