This book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes should be read with or to all children 10 - 12 years of age. The message from this beautiful story is a universal one - that war is never the answer to conflict. There are many ways to settle disagreements in our hearts, in our homes and in our countries and the last resort of war has perhaps the saddest consequences of all for mankind. I have recently returned from Japan. I visited the War Museum in Nagasaki and was brought to tears reading of the consequences of the atomic bomb. Horrific accounts of devastation and killing - not to mention the effects of radiation through generations - is too high a price to pay. May Sadako rest in peace and may the crane continue to be an international symbol of Peace.
