Marni Mann's book "Memoirs aren't Fairytales" is the first book to "Scars from a memoir", but the first few pages of this book briefly outlines what happened (but I truly do suggest you read the first one - it's my fave book of ALL time...and that's a big call for me to say!) Anyway just like the first book, "Scars from a Memoir" again is so compelling and hard to put down...except for the heartstopping moments when I literally have had to just sit completely still for 5-10mins, and try to work out/understand what i was feeling and how to deal with it, to be able to move on with the book. Marni Mann captures the voice of Nicole (affectionately known as "Cole") so deeply that you feel every single thing that she is going through - you almost become her. The book starts off pretty muchwhere the last one ended - she is just now finishing her jail sentence and reaching 93 days sober in a rehab/drug & alcohol rehabilitation program in there. Nicole then moves out to a half-way house kind of place, and still living in the same city of Boston where she spend the last 8 years ruining her life and everything in it, as well as everyONE in it....all thanks to heroin, her one and only love for many years. ..After being a recreational drug user, you could almost say she accidentally got addicted to heroin. Ohh ☹️ if only she knew what her new love would bring to her life. Anyway, she begins to navigate through her new life, finding new friends that she can actually connect with without the help of drugs, and then she meets herself a man! He's wonderful, and accepts her for who she is, who she's been, and who she wants to be - and he just wants to love, support, and take care of her. ❤️ Then she meets another man, just as wonderful - but he fulfils a different need in her heart. Which one will she choose? I'm not finished the book yet, but I've heard the ending is the biggest bullet to the heart throughout BOTH books...I can't wait to find out what it is, but at the same time I'm scared! (As well as the fact that I don't want the book to ever end...because we quickly grow to love Cole and barrack for her at every turn, despite all the havoc she's wreaked throughout her and her family and friends' lives. I can't recommend this book enough. Marni Mann is an amazing author, and this book and "Memoirs aren't fairytales" are her first works! (Though she has several titles and book series now, all of which are pretty hardcore. She is no afraid to "go there" and shock the pants off you, and eventhough some of the events are just so intense - they are always believable. She has such an amazing style of writing that is a pleasure to read, and you always feel like you're reading non-fiction...again, despite the serious and shockingly devastating, absolutely stunning events that you never see coming, that are SO intense that I believe if they were told by anyone else, it would almost seem like "yeah right 🙄" and seem too much.
