This is the third and final book in the 'Long Dusty Trail' series. It brings to an end the struggle of one families determination to build a cattle empire in the foot hills of the southern Rocky Mountains. Rustlers, thieves, bandits, and Indans have plagued the Flying C Ranch both on the long dusty trail from Kansas City with the first herd of Herefords, to the sensless killing of Bob Glasgow on his front porch. Slim Randles western author and currently a syndicated columnist of Home Country says; Mel Adkins writing is right up there with Louis L' Amour's and this is an amazing saga of a fascinating ranch family set in the majesty of the West in the 1880's A real page turner.
Mel was born in Guymon Oklahoma in 1947 and has lived part of the lifestyle he writes about. He has rode horses across the Red River, chased cows in Oklahoma and had his horse Ginger stuck in quicksand on the Cimarron River. He has drove cattle on the Old Spanish Trail and been on a fall roundup in the Fishlake National Forest high above Beaver Utah. He brings the ring of truth and believeability to his writing because he has been there.
