This paperback (my copy is anyway) provides very clear and detailed drawings of every aspect of the remains of the Mary Rose, which capsized and sank in 1545 in front of its owner Henry VIII. How the hull was built, how the decks were constructed, how the various large arms looked and worked ... It is all there. Of course, given that the physical remains consist of roughly half the hull without the fore and after castle structures, some of the reconstructions here are necessarily conjectural based on physical evidence and the one contemporary portrait of the ship on the Anthony Roll. Suffice to say, if that portrait is accurate, the castles towered three full decks above the waist of the ship! The good news for those aboard would be that they could shoot down at enemy decks. The bad news is a ship that is very top heavy and prone to instability, as her sudden capsize amply demonstrates. Very rewarding book!Read full review
