I bought this Hurricane XTE by Redcat Racing because it is a good looking car (it looks just like those other major brand 1/8 RC buggies) and it is affordable. Pros: - Affordable. 30% to 40% below other similar buggies. - Good looking. To me this is a really good looking car. One of the best in terms of line color, etc. - Comes with 2x7.4v LiPo's that will keep you about 20 minutes on the track (if it does not break first) - Main parts compatible with other brands (tires, body, tail wing. - Replacement parts available in several websites (including Redcat Racing website and ebay) with acceptable shipping time. - Most replacement parts sell at affordable prices. - It will take some use and abuse (just like the other cars that race in my local track (Vorza, Slash, etc) Cons: - The first one is that you have to use it with the gearing it has from factory, so you can't change pinion or spurgear because the motor can't be slided to adjust to the new gear size, in mi case, I need a little more power to clear a double ramp on the track I use to go to, but as I can't gear it up, I have to slow down to clear one ramp at a time. - The radio uses 8AA batteries which seems to be too much, all other car radios (2.4ghz) I have only use 4AA batteries. - The manual is confusing, it shows the parts for both the nitro and brushless versions so at some point you don't know which is the correct one. - When looking up parts using the part number, sometimes that number does not exist so you need to start searching by item description which may lead you to buy the wrong part. - It is fast but needs a little more power, I believe the electronics are just right and gearing it up a little would suffice, but as I said before, change gears is not possible. Overall it is a good car and I recommend it, however the major downsize is that can't be geared up, if Redcat solves that issue, this would be an excelent car right at the PRO level.Read full review
Bought car for my son, for his birthday (August, so the car sat around after I bought it, 28 years old) he has been in rc racing for some time but always with electric cars... we cannot seem to keep this car running... when the engine gets hot it shuts off. .. runs great when running... he is taking it to a local hobby store to have it looked at... i provided him with the e mail of the seller but he has misplaced it... he works as an auto mechanic (went to wyotech) so he does know vehicles.
This is my 3rd nitro rc from Red Cat and I have yet to break out the Hurricane XTR. I've been busy running shockwave and tornado S30. Base on experience with 1/10 scale, visual inspection of this buggy is so much beefier in every way and components are step up for sure. I plan on breaking this buggy shortly and provide my thorough opinion. Stay tune.... Bought the Earthquake 3.5 as companion to this XTR. Both needs breaking into at this time.

The instructions will tell you that the needle settings are set at the factory for break in. The instructions also do not provide a starting point. I went for break in, and had a terrible time starting the engine and keep it running. The engine kept flooding and hydro-locking. Shame on me for not checking the specs elsewhere. The LSN was completely closed, and the HSN was 5 turns out! Download the SH M22P3 manual! The correct break in setting is three turns out from fully closed. Now I hope I can go out and have some fun with this thing!

I bought it, because it is a cheap buggy, and it has a good design. Some even say it is a Kyosho MP 7.5 clone, but I never had one to put along and compare details. Actually, I had bought two of them. One just for parts as parts are not easily found for this particular model (XP). If you are looking for a entry level, fun and cheap buggy, this buggy is for you.
