This is a great phone - tough, easy to use, easy to get accessories for. Easy access to the Android market, and heaps of apps work great. It has great speakers and sound. It has an awesome camera and video camera. It has heaps of great features. The only problem with it is that it is apparently on the 2100mhz frequency which Telstra shut off at the end of August. My phone still works on the 2G network, but the 3G network is now no longer available for this phone, so apparently that will affect internet browsing etc with this phone. Not sure what the go is with the other networks, but probably not your best bet if you are with Telstra. Otherwise, I am really happy with this phone.
I bought this phone 2nd hand so therefore I'm extremely pleased with the low price I paid. I only needed a phone which had a bigger camera than what I had before. The camera is a 5mp which is great for what I need. I always have a camera with me. I have transferred my $20 per month Telstra plan to this phone & it is connected to the Internet via my WiFi when I am at home. I have installed Skype so I use this phone instead of my computer to make Skype phone calls it seems to work better this way. I'm very happy with my Motorola & I'm 70 years old.
My next phone had to be an Android, be small(ish) and light. The Motorola Defy+ fits my needs well enough with 118gr, 107x59x13mm. The 3.7" screen size is excellent. I still prefer a physical keyboard, but having used a Nokia N97 mini for a few years a side slide is completely out. I like the Palm Pre concept, but unfortunately, there's nothing that comes close with Android that meets my needs. The Motorola is an excellent performer and I'm very happy with it. Being rugged and water/dust proof is a bonus which means I won't have to worry when it gets wet in rain. Having gone from Symbian to Android required some adjusting and discovering how things work on Android, but thats also fun. Integration with Gmail/Contacts/Calendar is also very good. All in all, choosing an Android phone, and specifically the Defy+ was a good choice. Battery lasts about 5-6 days with my usage. My only gripe is with Motorola, I can't uninstall apps like Social things, weather, Voice and other useless stuff. I'm perfectly happy looking out the window to see what the weather is like. I don't need constant updates of what my friends are up to on FB, and certainly don't need to be alerted every time someone decides to send me an email. I'll be rooting my phone at some point for that. If your listening Motorola, it's my phone. I decide how I use it, and I'd appreciate it if you let me uninstall things I don't need. There's no point in voice control or social apps running in the background when it never gets used. Some people want it, some don't. You can accommodate both. As for the phone itself, you made a winner as far as I'm concerned.Read full review
Very good phone. It's customizable and simple to use. Feels good in the hand without being too heavy or too light. Fast to open things up and takes very clear pictures. Not as big as the Galaxy S and only millimetres smaller than the iPhone. I've never been a fan of Motorola but they look like they go this one right.
I bought a Defy on a Telstra plan 2 years ago for two reasons. 1. Tough. 2. Reception in rural areas. It lives up to both claims. I'm pretty rough on phones and have managed to kill every phone I've owned within a short time. This phone has put up with my antics, carried in my pocket amongst metal objects and whatever, it's accumulated numerous dings and scratches. Sure enough, after about the 100th drop on solid ground the speaker eventually started to distort. Maybe it's all the crud that's found it's way into the speaker orifice, dunno. It didn't die though, and I'm impressed ! So I bought the Defy+. It's faster and better performing than my old one. This one has a rubber cover and screen protector so I can continue to treat her rough :-) Yes I'd recommend this phone and will buy another one without hesitation.Read full review
