Replaced original (similar operations) shifters, when the housing on the rear shifter cracked (and entire shifter and housing would rotate, instead of shift gears). (Replaced ARIS TWIST RING - SCHWINN shifter, which appears to no longer be commercially available; quality of SRAM shifter is much better than the replaced ARIS shifter.) (Basic) Installation was straight-forward; however, adjustment of the connecting derailleurs - especially, the front derailleur, was challenging. (It is pointed out that difficulty adjusting derailleurs is not really a shifter issue.)

These shifters are awesome! I'm not a huge biking enthusiast, I bought a bike from Walmart a couple years ago, just some $90 thing that would get me around. From the first day the twist shifters always felt a bit stiff. Even after taking it in and having all the gears adjusted professionally, it just felt stiff. Well, one day the rubber pad literally tore right off. I was skeptical about these, but SRAM seems to be a name that pops up commonly among searches for bike parts and their derailleurs are used on my dad's $1000 Schwinn, so I figured I'd pull the trigger and try them out. The difference between these and the old shifters is quite literally like night and day. I barely have to put any effort into shifting through all 18 gears, unlike the old ones that I thought I was going to have to start lifting weights to continue to use them! The clicking mechanism isn't as "rough" feeling as the old ones, but it seems to do well to keep the derailleurs in place without leaving the gear you have it in. I do recommend looking up how to properly tune them if you've never done this before, the rear derailleur can be a bit of a hassle to get it to shift properly if you don't have the cable in the right position. Overall, very satisfied, made my cheap bike feel more expensive!Read full review

I used these on my sons Huffy Alpine mountain bike. Totally worked. I'm sure they would work on lots of different bikes cables are really long. I would wait to trim the cables until you have it working correctly....Hence why I ordered 2 sets.

It was my bad. I have a tandem 18 speed so cables were too short. So I took them apart and used my old cables and they worked perfect. My old shifters were gooey but cables were good.
