I live in a country that used the PAL format for its TV broadcasting system until it went digital. I have a collection of 20-year old NTSC format VHS tapes that are slowly deteriorating. I want to preserve some of them by transferring them to DVD. I tried a number of standard 'Play NTSC tape on PAL TV' VCRs and all of them provided images that lacked any red colour - peoples faces were green! With this model of Panasonic VCR you have the option of outputting video in NTSC 3.38 or 4.49 formats. Outputing in NTSC 3.38 into my Blackmagic Design Analog to SDI mini converter and then into my Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K Mini device enables me to create digital .avi movie files that have the correct colour renderings. Of course most VCRs are now no longer produced, so if you want to do what I'm doing, you need to buy a good second-hand VCR that is true 'Multi System NTSC and PAL' and not just capable of outputting NTSC in PAL format. The latter seems to corrupt the chrominance signal in the NTSC signal feed. Read full review
