After my fair share of pod machines including an expensive DeLonghi Nespresso, I had leaking problems with my latest pod machine and looked for something better. The R.O.K. came up in my search and after many YouTube videos I decided to give it a go. I allowed 1-2 weeks to get the hang of making a decent coffee with a hand press. Having no experience as a barista I assumed it would be a learning curve. It took 2 days for me to make a great coffee with nice crema and great flavor. It's taken just over a week to produce consistently good coffee. To compare this to a pod machine is difficult as its a complete class above. I'm producing better coffee at home than I can buy from 60% of cafes. I could no possibly be happier. My advise is take the plunge, lash out the money and allow two weeks to learn to make good coffee. The art lies in how fine you grind vs how tight you pack/press the portafilter (scoop). Also buy good beans! I use Industry Beans in Brunswick, Australia. They have won awards and their Rose Street blend is truly sublime. I tried a mate's beans from a supermarket and literally spat out the coffee. Very easy to clean, quick and easy process to make, no pods into landfill, portable for trips away or taking over a friends place (nice metal tin for transport). If you love coffee and want to make wonderful coffee at home then I highly recommend this product. I've order the R.O.K. Grinder so review on that to follow.Read full review

I bought this as a gift for my husband, who is a coffee connoisseur and also barista. For days when he can't be bothered to crank up the espresso machine, he uses this. I wonder if it has a determined life span, because 11 months into its daily use the top screw which holds the lever mechanism at the top simply came off. Yes you can screw it back on, but its annoying that it came undone in the first place. It happens now every 3-4 months so we have a screwdriver near the machine to screw when required. In terms of coffee quality, it's great IF YOU USE GOOD QUALITY GROUNDED COFFEE BEANS.

Have to say, I'm really impressed with this machine. I've only had it one day but already extremely impressed. Very simple design, good quality build and very few moving parts. Takes about 20 seconds to wash up which is fantastic. Not quite the pressure of an industrial or premium domestic machine but still makes a fantastic coffee.
