I bought this album in the light of Leonard's passing, having never heard it before. As I tend to stray from the newer releases as they are disappointing to me with an unpleasant frequency, I thought I would give this one a go as it indeed Leonard Cohen - the man himself. I began listening and from the first beats of "Slow" until the end I loved it. It has all the magic of any of Leonard's '60s or '70s records and what's more it has an undeniable awareness that what he sings is more truthful than ever. Some of the lyrics are direct - perhaps a little too direct - rather than beating around the bush as poetry often tends to do, but it fits in well with the overall theme. With a voice that's been aged like fine wine, Leonard keeps his cool on this album and stays true to his fans; he never slowed down and gave it all right until the end. A true musician, and a true gentleman. This is one of those albums I can listen to all day and not bore of it. 5 starsRead full review
