Additional information
Songs from the Plains Indians, broken into two groups: Southern Plains and Northern Plains. Tribes represented in the performing ensembles include Pawnee, Ponca, Sac, Fox, Quapaw, Osage, Kiowa in the Southern Plains songs; Sioux, Hadatsa and Arapaho for the Northern Plains songs. This 1975 collection of social and ceremonial music of the Great Plains Indians mostly focuses on intertribal music from southern groups, mostly Oklahoman, although there are five cuts of northern plains music. Most of the selections involve groups singing at a powwow in Skiatook, OK. Here are war dance songs, contest songs for straight dancers and fancy dancers, a Sioux flag song, a Vietnam song, and grass dance songs. ~ John Storm Roberts
