In Elvis Presley's fifteenth movie, "Viva Las Vegas:, which was perhaps one of his best musical comedies, Elvis was finally teamed up with a co-star whose singing and dancing matched the intensity of his own performing style. Elvis plays Lucky Jackson, a race-car driver whose car desperately needs a new engine. He arrives in Las Vegas for the Vegas Grand Prix. He romances the beautiful Rusty Martin (played by Ann-Margaret) while repairing the engine, and finally winning the big race. The 12 songs recorded for the film were originally issued on a series of record releases over of span of 27 years! Now, they are, at last, brought together onto a single-disc album for the very first time. "Viva Las Vegas" and "What'd I Say" were issued together on a 45 RPM single; "If You Think I Don't Need You", "I Need Somebody To Lean On", "C'mon Everybody" and "Today, Tomorrow And Forever" were featured on an EP release; "Santa Lucia" debuted on the "Elvis For Everyone" album; "Night Life", "Do The Vega" and "Yellow Rose Of Texas/The Eyes Of Texas" were issued as part of the "Elvis Sings Flaming Star" compilation; the duet "The Lady Loves Me" first appeared in 1983's "A Legendary Performer Volume 4"; another duet, "You're The Boss", remained unreleased until the 1991 album "Elvis Sings Leiber And Stoller". It should be noted that the songs "Night Life", "Do The Vega" and "You're The Boss" were recorded for the film soundtrack, but do not appear in the movie. These 12 songs would have easily made an excellent soundtrack album in 1964 that, no doubt, would have gone all the way to number one! Now, to finally have them together where they so rightfully belong is a genuine thrill. It was a long time coming, but now you can experience the "Viva Las Vegas" movie soundtrack the way that it was meant to be heard. All in all, this album is head-and-shoulders above many of the other Elvis movie albums from the 60s, retaining a freshness and sense of excitement that still holds up perfectly, well into the 21st century. RCA brilliantly revived the front cover of its original EP for this CD release. Viva Las Vegas forever!Read full review
