When Tom Selleck took on the roll, he insisted that all the firearm used in the movie were authentic to the period, and it shows! ;The late, Alan [Sidney Patrick] Rickman, once again cast as the arch villain of the piece plays the part in his usual superb way. All-in-all, a movie worth watching

Quigley, our hero, is impossibly handsome, smart, strong, brave, chivalrous, infallible... And all the baddies are Really Bad, especially the villanous but strangely attractive rancher played (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) by Alan Rickman, while the heroine is a feisty beauty of course. I loved it but my friend looked a bit queasy about half-way through and said it was twee. I'll probably watch it again but on my own!.

A good strong story line which has humour mixed with action i a well balanced manner. Great scenery and good acting with a pertinent story line. It is a 'western' in the sense of hero and his girl plus nasty rancher to go up against - set in Australia and the hero is a sharpshooter using a long range Sharpes rifle. Engaging characters and good acting as you would expect from Alan Rickman, Tom Sellick - the ensemble cast is first class too. Echoes of Zulu at the end as a nice twist.

If you love the Sharps rifle and regard it as the main character of the film, then yes, it's characters are engaging. But otherwise it really isn't a good film. But it is still quite fun, and for £3 I am glad I bought it. I might feel differently if I'd paid full price and had higher expectations of the film.
