I must say, this is the most gorgeous product I've ever found in a bargain store! Oh, but the times I've passed by the window to stop and admire it...one day I finally said, "Enough of this fooling around, Retyrn of the Frog-Queene, I'm taking you home right now!" And the rest is history. Yet, it is a history like I never could have imagined. As soon as I arrived home and unwrapped it, the whole room seemed to suddenly burst with light. How could I have known what I would find within that delicate shell? My word, it looked so old--no doubt twice as old as I, at least! Simply because no one makes them anymore, which is certainly a shame. As it happens, there is a picture of the man who made it on the back, discernable only after a rigorous polishing-off; and if it was a recent photograph, then certainly he is quite dead now, or very close to death. Heaven forbid it should break, sturdy as it's been. Everyone with whom I've shared it has marveled at the intricacy of the design, though they are far more amazed to hear how little I paid for it. It was luck, I say, that led it into my hands...perhaps, if I were a bit more inclined to superstition, I would say it were destiny!Read full review
I had never heard of Jeremy Enigk until I came across a list of recommended cds on the eMusic site. The orchestral arrangements and his impassioned vocals impressed me immediately. My only complaint is that it's perhaps a little short and when the last song ends I find myself wishing the magic would continue a little longer.
If you are a fan of Sufjan Stevens and Sunny Day Real Estate then you will love Jeremy Enigk's first solo album. Beautifully orchestrated music with haunting lyrics. A must for any fan of Enigk's work.
