If you’re looking into this lens for your Fujifilm cameras, you’re probably trying to decide if it’s going to be good enough, or if you should spend a few extra buckets of cash on the Fuji native glass. Fuji doesn’t make a prime this wide, so that leaves you with the 10-24 or the 8-16 to choose between if you want to go ultra-wide. Both are worthy of their pedigree and price, of course. So if ultimate image quality is your goal (as well as perks like OIS and autofocus), money is no object, and you’re not worried about bulk, buy the Fuji lenses and move on. Otherwise, keep reading. I don’t shoot wide a lot… well… I didn’t until a couple weeks ago. I considered this lens because I recently moved from a full-frame system and wanted to shed as much weight as possible. I wanted an ultra wide that could sit in a bag and not take up much room or add much weight when I wasn’t using it, which I figured would be a lot. This was meant to be a “just in case, better than nothing” lens. Two weeks later; it now has a permanent place in my bag and I use it nearly every time I pull my camera out. I won’t leave home without it. It is sharp, easy to use and built as tough as any pro lens I’ve used. I was expecting the sharpness to be good enough. You know, not great, but good enough. Turns out it is somewhere between great and spectacular. If — and only IF — I pixel peep, I would find that the native (and far more expensive) Fuji glass is sharper and cleaner. But for everyday photography, it’s a cracker of a lens. I have used it a lot for fun, and even for a couple paid shoots. It has far exceeded expectations there. It is manual focus only. It doesn’t have OIS. It has no weather-sealing. Big deal. Are you constantly taking photos of fast-moving objects in low light while in a thunderstorm? No? Then you don’t need those things on a lens like this. Take an extra second to get your focus, use a tripod if you need to, keep it dry and you’ll be fine. Bottom line, it’s worth every penny. It’s fun to use, has very little distortion, and delivers incredibly sharp images. If you’ve read this far, look, stop thinking about it and just buy it. Look, even if you decide to splurge on one of Fuji’s wide zooms, I guarantee you’ll still use this lens a lot. Seriously, go for it. Read full review
