These in ear phones are capable of fine mid range and top end detail. Instruments and vocals are crystal clear and I believe reproduced with neutrality. There has been some criticism in reviews that the base is slightly thin. If the ear plugs are inserted firmly into the ear canal, as Shure suggest, the solidness of bass is improved. The bass may not be as dominant as some other manufacturers provide, but the trade off in clear and detailed sound information creates an addictive listening experience. In think Shure have created the right recipe. The phones are comfortable if installed as per the photograph on the shure box. It does take some fiddling around, but the comfort level is enhanced. I feel the set up time means these phones are not suited to quick casual listening, but are extremely rewarding for sustained listening. This is a fine product and shows how efficient and detailed an IEP product can be.Read full review

Sound quality is exactly as stated in WhatHiFi review - extraordinary, beautiful, musical, clean, balanced. Bass seems a little light but is probably accurate and uncoloured. But the physical setup as a professional IEM makes them hard to ear for everyday listening - seems to me constant adjusting of earpiece insertion depth is needed as sound changes dramatically according to fit, an the over-the-ear design is just annoying.....currently pondering changing for a slightly lower sound quality but simpler overall experience.....

The Shure SE425 in ear monitors appeared to come in near the top of most reviews I had read given my type of usage (Live music). One the first use I realise I had done the right thing by purchasing them. What I particularly like about the Shure SE425 is the clarity of the reproduction. The dynamic range is really quite astounding especially when compared to lesser products. As a vocalist/guitar player I find the SE425 monitors separate the dynamic ranges and produce a very authentic reproduction. The quality of the cables and earpieces is noticeable as they feel more robust than some cheaper monitors I have used. The variety of the included earbuds is handy as I found that on intitial use my ears were a bit sore from the standard sized buds. Overall a top class product.
Great Set of Headphones!! If you are into your acoustic sounds, classical music, jazz and even rock music. These are the pair of IEMs that you need for the right balance of bass, mid tones, and all-round tight sounding IEM that will pick out the most subtle of instruments. These are definitely not for bass addicts, electro listeners, or a Pop in general. It aims for accurate mid-tones, and a balanced amount of bass. For more bass emphasis go for the se535's But at that price I suggest you get Cup-style Pro headphone monitors. Audiotechnica's ATH M50 are great for its price with good bass and mid-tone clarity.
