Additional information
This compilation, which continues the swinging, downbeat sound of the first volume of Saint-Germain-Des-Prés Café, seamlessly integrates hyper-stylized jazz that evokes '50s Europe with drum'n'bass, house, and chill-out music. The contributors range from contemporary jazz gods like Herbie Hancock to Kaori Kaneko (producer). and Kenny Dope. The mood is laid-back and mellow throughout, with plenty of muted trumpet and high-hat on the organic side, and the wide range of artists keeps the whole thing from seeming like a big gimmick. This is a fine follow-up album that seems to do a good job of taking its predecessor's concept one step further. ~ Stacia Proefrock
