I wasn't looking for another putter. I sold an old set of X-14's at a consignment shop and the owner was giving me the run around about giving me cash. So I decided to buy a few clubs that I could resell on Ebay. I found this nestled into a corner behind a bunch of substandard putters and compared it for about twenty minutes to a 2 ball. The only thing I didn't like about the Red X (330g 35") was that it has noticeably more mass on the toe than the heel. The head is shaped with a wider, flatter mass weight on the heel. Overall the head shape looks like a cross between a semi circle and a foot. The asymmetry is a little distracting but is quickly forgotten after a few putts. I thought that it setup a little open but it passed the kitchen tile test, so it definitely sets up square. The Red X beat the 2 ball in both putts sunk and feel. Then I took it to compare head to head with the putter in my bag. I'm a bit of a numbers guys so I took it to a putting green and compared it head to head with a Nike T100 oz. I've always loved my Nike High MOI alien assisted design putting monstrosity and found that over 30 putts (the lowest number of putts in a sample that reflects the true population of all putts), I lagged much better with the Scotty but holed out more 6-12 footers with the Nike. Had I been counting total putting strokes for 30 balls going into the hole, I guess that the Scotty would've won by closer lags (less three putts) than the small difference in holing out 6-12 footers. The head to head was a little inconclusive but after a single practice session being competitive with a putter I've used all season is pretty good. The feel of the Scotty definitely beats the Nike. Most important of all, the feedback of twisting the head in the backstroke is very easy to feel and found that the extra toe weight really set off bells and whistles in my head that said 'hey I'm not square'. The nike is pretty easy to miss the twisting but because of the three areas of mass keep your ball fairly close to the target line(MOI). I noticed during the putt off that the Nike kept a small line deviance. The scotty goes right where your stroke is sending it. Whether it was your intended line or not.Read full review
This is an incredible putter. The craftmanship is apparent from the first time you use it. The putter has great feel and the ball comes off the face with a true, smooth role, with little bounce and tremendous accuracy, for distance and alignment. The improvement in my putting from 6 to 12 feet has been extremely beneficial in lowering my scores. The look of the putter is easy to align and gives instant confidence to the user. If you like a mallet style putter I would encourage you to try it; you will quite pleased with the results.
I am relatively new to golf (3years) and had purchased a cheap putter. I had bought a set of Tommy Armour irons when I first started and due to some advice from friends did not get the cheapest things I could find. While these are certainly not very expensive since they were used I still like them, but I wasn't comfortable with my putter (a $25 special). The Red X putter I just purchased has a very nice feel and even though I've only played one round I liked it immediately. It won't make me Tiger Woods, but it does make me feel more confident, and that's what makes Tiger great.
I just tried a mid belly putter for the first time a couple of weeks ago at the advice of my friend who is a golf pro. After practicing for a half hour , I went out and played the next day and was nocking down 15 to 20 footers the first time out. I use a standard putting grip as you would with a conventional putter , and I am shocked at how accurate my putting has improved. I still have bad days with the red x , but on a good , I am absolutely lights out with this putter. Try a red x belly putter. I think you will be as surprised as I was. Say goodbye to pulled putts !
I bought this putter because it was center shafted and 33 inches long. I love the feel and the sound of this particular model. I had one of these in the 35 inch model but it was just to light, so I bought the shorter heavier model and had the shaft extended. It worked out very well. This is a great putter and can be had on Ebay in good condition for about a third of the original price. I recommend this putter to anyone looking for a high end putter, but without the $300 price.
