I read everyone's review on this game and decided to give it a shot. I didn't like this game at all. First, I didn't find the story that compelling, first 20 minutes of the game it started off confusing. Like how in the he'll did I get to the forest? And the tutorial didn't start till you meet the nun lady. (Sorry I forgot her name). The graphics were good. The game play could use some tweaking. Other than that it was ok game to me.

This is a really great game in terms of presentation, being gloomy as hell and boasting a creepy soundtrack. Big plus for survival horror. I always like a game where you get little to no weapons, because it forces the gameplay to sink or swim by its quality. The whole fun in this game is when you're sightjacking a nearby zombie, trying to concentrate on whether or not it can see you while listening to its insane jabbering/loud breathing. It's a really original sustem, and the makers had a little fun with it. Once in a while you'll tune into one of them just stabbing away at a wall, completely distracted, but somehow that'll be the one that creeps you out the most. Anyway, in theory it's genius, but in practice it's hard to do, which is what will quickly turn off the casual gamer. It takes hardcore concentration to navigate blindly, sightjacking one of several nearby baddies at a time, and may- nay, will- require far more trial and error than I suspect most people are prepared to go through. At the end of the day, it's a matter of whether or not the great visuals and unique approach are enough to trump the learning curve.Read full review
First of all, to get it out of the way, I'm a very heavy survival horror game fan. I've played most of the horror games out there, and really loved some, but Siren is the most unique one I've ever played... If your wondering why its so unique, it simply because, (or not so simply) you can see through the enemies view. Meaning you can get a first-person perspective of the Shibito's (the name for the zombies in the game) vision at almost any time. Not only that, but you end up playing as ten players through out the game. Every level that you play, is not only very creepy, but is categorized in time segments and by which character you're playing as. So if lets say, you're playing as John Doe,(and example), at two- o-clock in the morning on the game, on a chart you would be under John Doe's name and in the 2:00am section. It's a little hard to get all at once, but you learn how to read the chart as you play, (It's very similar to a timeline). After you complete a level by finishing the objective, (i.e. Escape building with partner or Kill monster), you advance to another level. So lets say you finished the John Doe level at 2:00am, after your done, you'll advance to the next level in the chart I mentioned earlier under another person's name and in a different time. (Like from John Doe to Cindy Jones at 5:00am). And in addition to that, almost every level will have another objective that is unlocked after beating the first, (and are sometimes mandatory if you want to progress further). Many people didn't like this game because of the second objectives, but I personally felt that they really made the story come to life, (i.e. the objective is to find a shoe, that doesn't make any sense, but when you find it your character will say something about the shoe that ever further unwraps the story, (I know it sounds stupid, but trust me! It's really cool and makes the game alot better!)) And somtimes, in order to unlock a second objective, you have to do stuff in levels that take place before that one in order to unlock it. Whoops! I forgot the story! (Which is the best part in my opinion). It starts off as you playing as a teen named Kyoya Soda, (most of the names are Japanese, that may put some people off), who is being chased by a crazy looking police officer with a gun in his hand! I wont say much more, but only that this game has one of the best stories in my whole video gaming career! There are so many plot twists and archive items that will explain more on what happened and make you scared silly, (or cry in some spots if you cry easily with sentimental stuff). Just because there is so much good stuff, doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with the game. The actual game play could have been better, and the aiming (with gun or melee weapon) could have been improved, espescial when there are lots of Shibito around! And also, lots of people said this game was too hard, I thought it was too, but not in a bad way. In the end, the question "Is the game scary?" is brought up. And my answer is yes, but not in a crazy run and kill way. This is the kind of horror that is eary and makes you not want to go any farther in fear that you will die. Very creepy stuff! If you like scary games, this is one of the best. If you don't, still buy this game! It's just that good.Read full review
Pros: Siren is a different type of a survival horror game. For the first time ever you are able to jump into the mind of a creature that is hunting you and be able to see through its eyes. You can catch creatures doing all sorts of creepy things, like eating nasty food, or working on their spice gardens. The game has very nice graphics, and they are really pushing the limits of the PS2's hardware. The game's atmosphere and monsters are creepy. Cons: As the game unfolds your objectives are never clear. It is easy to get lost, and ultimately die at the hands of monsters. The game starts in pitch-black settings, making it very hard to see where you are going. On top of that monster snipers have excellent aim in the dark and are able to take you down with ease. Next, the game falls short with it combat control. The controls bare resemblance to the Silent Hill series. When you kill a monster it will not stay dead, the monster will come back to life after a small amount of time passes. In Siren you will die often, and that can get very frustrating.Read full review
Siren is an interesting survival horror game. Interesting because you get to see where the enemies are, not because of maps but because you can see what they see through the method of sightjacking. It is also interesting because you aren't always the protagonist, but you are several people trying to escape the town at first but then try to change the current status. It is also interesting because you are never actually told what you are dealing with. You collect archive items that will explain what happened and what are those monsters. All the character's quests interact, for example. There is a level that you have to listen to a recording, when you listen to that recording it takes you to the place where the recording takes place and you have to play out that scenario, another example is like that you have to open a door for another character to go in through later. Pro's I can guarantee that you have or never will play a game like Siren again. It's not the typical, you have to kill enemies to get through game its more stealth but there are times where you are forced to kill something or are just discovered and have to defend yourself. Play 5 scenarios of the game and you will understand why this game is worth playing. Con's The game takes place in Japan, everyone is Japanese but have a European accent but you will slowly forget about it. You have to play all stages (in exception of the first) at least two times until you know what to do). It takes some research to understand what the game is fully about. Ally's tend to be useless at most points. Try it. It isn't too expensive and i am sure that it will end up on your "Favorite Games" list.Read full review
