Aujourd'hui en France, de plus en plus de personnes meurent a l'hopital. Cependant, confrontes a une population culturellement differente les soignants se trouvent en difficulte par manque de formation. Cette disparite culturelle est-elle reellement un frein a la prise en charge palliative hospitaliere ou si des facteurs tels le statut socio-ecomique et juridique y sont etroitement lies ? Notre questionnement anthropologique est donc de cerner si l'alterite constitue une valeur fondamentale a inclure dans les soins palliatifs dans un etablissement de sante. L'enquete a ete realisee dans un CHU de Seine-Saint-Denis accueillant plus de quatre-vingt nationalites. Notre recherche s'est orientee sur deux axes. D'abord, us avons etudie les relations medecin-malade a differentes phases de la maladie jusqu'a l'annce de l'incurabilite. Le second axe s'est oriente sur les pratiques soignantes autour du patient en fin de vie ou chacun avec son savoir et sa sensibilite s'efforce d'y repondre par des tentatives de debrouille afin d'accompagner dignement ces personnes au bien mourir. Cet ouvrage s'adresse a toute personne interessee par le theme des soins palliatifs.
