This book is standard Hal Leonard book. It has an interesting little eight-page introduction, with pictures and headlines from the era...for me, this adds an extra layer of understanding and sets the mental mood for the lyrics and musical tone of the period. Then, each song is professionally laid out in triple-staff (voice/solo+piano) w/ Chord/fret charts right above. Also, expect most songs to be in their "easiest" key...D-flat and E are the most difficult, but most are in C or G. Coincidentally, most songs are pretty darn close to, if not in, the original key. Easy to read layout. Personally, these songs are perfect (and I have used them) for weddings or funerals; it seems there is a nice balance of happy and sad songs in each book. I split the spine and insert the pages into plastic protectors, then 3-ring binder it because these are GREAT books!!Read full review
After finding a copy at the library and checking it out for fun (these were my high school songs), I knew I had to have this one. It's a great selection of the usual suspects, Elton John, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, James Taylor--but I really smiled when I got to little gems like Sedaka's "Laughter in the Rain". These pieces are easy enough for an intermediate/advanced player to play almost immediately. The arrangements are very good and are true to the recordings--you get what you're expecting. Most importantly, they're awfully fun to play--you'll be smiling too.
Great songs. Thanx
