Author Biography
Fiona Sugden-Best qualified as a speech & language therapist from City University, London, in 1988, where she returned to study for a MSc in Communication Disorders in 1993. She initially worked in a general position for Newham Health Authority before working at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability for seven-and-a-half years, managing predominantly a progressive neurological client group and providing cover on the rehabilitation wards, including the minimally responsive unit. She has also worked as Senior Speech & Language Therapist for acute neurosciences at The Royal London and Barts NHS Trust, as adult team-co-ordinator for Redbridge Healthcare, covering a domiciliary caseload and as Head Speech & Language Therapist at The Children's Trust. She is currently Head of SLT and Dietetics for Surrey and Sussex Health Care NHS Trust, she clinically covers a group of residential nursing and adults with learning disability homes for an independent provider , together with providing a private therapeutic service to clients with both voice and acquired communication disorders. She has always been actively involved in educating others, including speech & language therapists.
