Excellently produced with an excellent script and superb acting. The story cleverly unfolds and the characters are very human. Labelled as Series 1 but I do not believe there was another series.

Intrigue from the beginning, mystery after mystery. Characters and locations are believable. Disk has noise in some places that is annoying.

This program was one of those political dramas that the British are so good at. I saw it a few years ago and was absorbed from the beginning. The story was written by Paul Abbot who went on to make "Shameless" , using some of the actors for boith, particularly James Mcavoy who later made his name in film, for example "The last King of Scotland". One well known actor in State of Play was Bill Nighy who plays a rather out of his depth newspaper editor. The story starts withe the death of two people, seemingly unrelated, but a young journalist (played by John Simm) finds evidence of a connection and spends the rest of the story trying to unravel the plot. The script was well written and the characters were well developed, particularly a slimey character called Domenic Foy, who was involved in the plot but was hard to pin down. If you want a good crime drama keeping you guessing to the end, then State of play is for you. Read full review
