This Hep release covers three and a half of pianist Teddy Wilson's all-star sessions from 1936. Since Billie Holiday only takes three vocals (including a classic "I Cried for You" that co-stars altoist Johnny Hodges), some of this material is more rare than usual although the European Classics series has also reissued the music. In addition to Lady Day, there are two early vocals by Ella Fitzgerald, a pair of obscure Helen Ward features, and several heated instrumentals, some of which feature the blazing trumpeter of Roy Eldridge and tenor great Chu Berry; "Warmin' Up" and "Blues in C Sharp Minor" are particularly memorable. ~ Scott Yanow
