This novel contained 480 pages. I read 250 of it and put it down. Frederick Forsyth is a renowned novelist. I have read many a book by him which gave me through enjoyment. The Deceiver (1991), however, began quite enigmatically and deciphering the paragraphs was a chore in itself. Too many names, too many places and too many seemingly unrelated events. Too cumbersome to follow. Had I completed the book I might have been quite satisfied, but I wouldn’t know that would I. I normally give the benefit of the doubt but in this case I just could not tolerate it anymore. I will not judge the author’s ability by one book, as I said FF is a highly knowledgeable author, but The Deceiver, although still carried his style of writing and plotting, contained excessive enigma that tired this reader.
