Assembling a comprehensive analysis of a 10 year production run of Jaguar's turn of century GT sports car, the XK8 & XKR, and doing so in less than 60 pages, cannot be an easy task. For those used to Thorley's predictable format and presentation, there will be brickbats and bouquets! This is my fourth in the Jaguar series and I would guess that about 1/4 of the text content is generic to all. This is a pity because, compared to the X-Type and S-Type, there is much to cover here. His tips and advice for known problem areas in these cars is sound, comprehensive, and backed up with some excellent workshop photographs. These alone make this little book of singular value. Unfortunately, the evolution of variants and upgrades throughout the 10 year production is handled poorly. There is no data linking VINs to quite major changes, and no comparative pics to detail the significance of these developments - as was done effectively for the S-Type version. Some may find the content somewhat superficial but, for the money, I regard it as cheap insurance to being best informed about my quite complex Jaguar. For the really important technical stuff, DVD versions of all the Jaguar Workshop Manuals are a vital companion.Read full review
