I had never been a big fan of the Zelda series, but The Wind Waker quickly became my all-time favourite game. Phantom Hourglass manages to pack in the same spirit of adventure, discovery and humour that made The Wind Waker so special. I was initially skeptical of the touchscreen controls, but found them very intuitive and ultimately flawless. The game is also structured in such a way that it can be played for ten minutes and then paused, which is essential for any handheld game but often ignored by developers who insist on filling games with long cutscenes. The only significant flaw is the baffling decision of the design team to make the player play through the same dungeon, defeating the same enemies, solving the same puzzles, roughly ten times. The Temple of the Ocean King is inserted between each regular temple, and each time the player goes a little deeper. This can be frustrating, but doesn't undo the many positives of the game. Phantom Hourglass is easily in the top echelon of DS games, and would be a worthy pickup for all gamers, even those (like myself) who are not fans of traditional Zelda games. This game offers an entirely different experience to console Zelda games, while maintaining the feel of its predecessor.Read full review
I played a friends copy a few years ago, now my goddaughter and I are working through the games together so I bit the bullet and bought my own copy! She loves it. Easy enough to knock out a couple of dungeons in an evening, but challenging enough that you don't feel cheated. The controls are remarkably intuitive and the game makes excellent use of ALL the DS's feathers to create an engaging title to add to the LoZ family of games!

This has always been one of my favourite Zelda instalments. The world is beautiful, the characters have hilarious personalities, the story is compelling, and the gameplay is unique. Its difficult enough that it provides a challenge but not too hard that you get frustrated. Definitely a great game for beginners to the Nintendo DS consoles.
