I bought THE MAKING OF MISS SAIGON after reviewing it as one of my NetFlix selections. I was very impressed with the quality of the production and the beautiful story of bringing this production to the Broadway stage. It has the step-by-step story of finding the right person to play the lead in Miss Saigon. Since there is no DVD available of the full show, this documentary is the next best thing. There are several wonderful recordings of the musical numbers in part and in whole. Some music is recorded during Tryouts, some during rehearsals and some are recorded during live performance. This is a perfect DVD for those who love Broadway musicals. Overall, I'd recommend the musical theatre lover add this DVD to their collection. You will love it, Lois
If you missed this original broadway play, like I did, we were extremely unfortunate. The only way to recapture it's original glory is to view this wonderful DVD. It delves into the making of this incredible play from it's infancy to it's finality. The cast is wonderful, especially the lead, Lea Salonga. I only wish there would have been more scenes from the actual play but we do get glimpses of a couple of it's most famous numbers. Yet, I found myself wanting more. If you missed it 20 years ago, this is about the only way to see how it was actually produced and acted out. I am a huge fan of this wonderful score......and any fan of this play should own this DVD.
Anyone who loves the theatre will love this CD. One sees the elements of conceiving, producing, directing advertising, and finalizing a Broadway musical. The presentation is very well done and very exciting. Wish I could find more like it. Too much time was spent on choosing Miss Saigon. I would have liked to have seen how they worked with her son, how they worked with the orchestra, etc. But I can't get enough of this stuff.
I decided to buy this DVD because of two reasons. First - I have not found a DVD of the musical itself because it is still running in New York and secondly, because I loved it. Understanding what the producers went through to make this, the great successful play that it is, is priceless. I would highly recomend this DVD to those who have enjoyed Miss Saigon.
I think that every person who is or waws a musical theatre major, who it interested in any part of theatre, putting aproduction together, to casting can learn a lot from this film. Actors, singers can learn from Lea Salonga and others about confidence, concentration in the audition process. it's great
