Obviously the authors having access to the David O. Selznick files at the University of Texas is indeed a blessing. However, it takes a brilliant, serious, devoted writer to assemble the gobs of available, archived material into -- readable, informative text. And a skilled photo/layout editor to design the pages. The photos, many never-before published, plus visual artifacts appear amazingly sharp, clear and fascinating due to their faithful reproduction. Being of a certain age and owning three decades' old GWTW books in my library, plus attending two 80th anniversary presentations at AMC and Laemmle Theatres (March '19) made me especially "anxious" to devour a (relatively) new title. I spent considerable time reading users' reviews; finally clicked "buy." Oh, the dust jacket is beautiful too. Very nice paper with a quality feel. The chapters are organized in an appropriate way. So, I devoured this title, off and on, over 72 hours (i.e., 3 days). How cool to read memos that state "don't you dare let this out of your hands!" -- and here we are 80 years later in on the inner workings of this masterpiece of cinema. Perhaps the greatest compliment I can give this tome is "David O. Selznick, the perfectionist responsible for 'GWTW', would be ecstatic!"Read full review
