Additional information
Originally touted as "the female Elvis Presley," teenage singer Janis Martin's career was interrupted by her teen marriage and pregnancy; she later effectively retired from show business to raise her family. Covering many of her original 1950s recordings, including her first single, "Will You, Willyum," and its B-side, her self-penned "Drugstore Rock & Roll," as well as numerous outtakes, this Bear Family release is a useful supplement to its comprehensive Martin best-of, FEMALE ELVIS. Martin's voice recalls the teen sassiness of Brenda Lee, and the stripped-down rockabilly backing gives these cuts a raunchy, contemporary feel.
