I heard this book mentioned as a 'book club' choice on the radio (The Archers) and this prompted me to buy it as I'd not heard of it before. It is a true detective story from 1860, very well researched, but written so well that it doesn't lose the reader in the mundane. It kept me absorbed from beginning to end and was a fascinating insight into the Victorian era and the beginning of Detective work and the fiction that accompanied it.
A bit of a disappointing book sounded quite promising but too much airy-fairyness about it.Didn't get too far into it before I called it a day.
