If we can all find a seat, we will start the hearing. It is a pleasure to be here today. I appreciate Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey's extending the invitation to bring the subcommittee here for this hearing on the U. S. wine industry. Your Congressperson, Ms. Woolsey, has been a very active member of this subcommittee; and I can assure you that she has never missed an opportunity to question the USDA about issues which concern her agriculture constituency. And we are delighted that she has extended the invitation to us today, and I will defer to her at this time for any opening statement she would like to make. Ms. Woolsey. Well, thank you, Mr. Chairman. I would like to welcome all of you here today for the first ever congressional hearing to be held on the wine industry in rthern California. I want to thank Chairman Condit for agreeing to hold this important hearing. And it is an hor for me to be a member of his Government Operations Subcommittee on Information, Justice, Transportation, and Agriculture.
