Just as INSIGHTFUL and FUNNY as LARSON's FAR SIDE (maybe even more so)! RUBES is NO knock-off of the FAR SIDE: Rubin and Larson began cartooning about the same time independently of each other but Rubin took a little slower path. Incidentally, Watterson also began CALVIN & HOBBES in that same time-frame, so the early 80's spawned a triple witching of cartooning GENIUS. RUBES is also available in desk calendars (ZOO in a Box), small theme books (Pets, Farm Animals, Love, and yes, Cows), and in some newspapers. Rubin's artwork (like Watterson's) is consistently cartoonish; Larson's can be more like gallery-quality paintings at times. With Larson (and Watterson) retired from cartoons, we are fortunate to have Rubin still active, finding new perspectives on us humans, and making us laugh at our foibles and conceits.Read full review
